A diesel particulate filter has thousands of small channels that are alternately sealed. Exhaust flows out of one channel and is forced to exit out of an adjacent channel. The filtering occurs at the flow passes thru the wall. Ash is the material that is left when all the carbon on the filter is oxidized to carbon dioxide (C02). The primary constituents to ash is the remains of the lubricating oil additive package and engine wear metals. Fuel contains almost no ash and most the fine particle matter is filtered out of the fuel before it gets thru the fuel system. Fuel contains almost no dissolved constituents that are not carbon based. ASH WILL STAY PERMANENTLY IN THE FILTER TILL CLEANED. Over time, this ash build up reduces the soot handling capability of the filter and requires more frequent regenerations to maintain exhaust flow and fuel economy. Our state of the art, unrivaled Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaning System uses what is called a "Dual Force" technology where compressed air and intense vacuum is used simultaneously to push from the top and pull from the bottom to force the contaminated soot from the filter cells. The cleaning system has a built in pressure differential test system to evaluate the filter before, during and after the cleaning process is completed. Each filter has a different "flow pattern" where the exhaust enters the DPF while working on the vehicle. These flow patterns generally create more soot concentration in specific areas of the DPF. Our system allows us to work on specific areas until clean where other automated systems cannot recognize the problem areas and pass over them. This allows for more concentration on cells that may need extra attention. In turn, the customer receives a filter that can perform longer between cleaning cycles, simply because the filter is cleaned thoroughly.
The cleaning process is accompanied with the aide of video which enables inspection thru the entire cleaning procedure. On Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit, Mack and Max Force Engines, the fault codes associated with restricted DPF filters can be "swept" from the ECM to eliminate the Check Engine Lights or Stop Engine Lights. ECM Calibration Updates can be made to aide in the elimination of 'nuisance' fault codes. After completion of repairs, an Active Stationary Regeneration can be performed. HEPA Filtration is used to capture all soot, ash and contaminants. DPF's are weighed prior to and after the cleaning process to determine the amount extracted from the filter. Each DPF will be evaluated on a "flow bench" to determine the amount of restriction and inspect for "Thermal Events" the filter has undergone. On certain applications, the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst or DOC will be cleaned in addition to the DPF to ensure a clean after-treatment system. All procedures will be performed "On-Site" to add another level of convenience to the customer.
